When you get the guy who has had a huge hit scoring Peter Gunn together with the man who popularised Hawaiian music in the US and an oboe player who would go on to compose music for Star Trek and the Man From UNCLE among many other TV series, you’re onto a winner. So, they’d ticked off crime jazz and done exotica in Hawaii, inevitably they headed off – Bob Hope and Bing Crosby like – on the road to the orient. Taking in Rangoon, Yokohama, Ranchipur, rainstorms, whirling dervishes, frogs, percussive gamelan, street noise and bachelor pad guitar in search of a runaway rickshaw. A magical mystery tour, no less.
