about

I wish Korla Pandit in all his eastern eminence was a real person, but the story goes that he was a supper club organist during the 1940s who created the myth of an Indian-born turban-wearing organ player leaning heavily on the ethereal. Pre-dating exotica, he was primed by 1958 to release a string of albums and elevate his mysterious cartoon-like persona onto TV. ‘Music Of The Exotic East’ was his debut set of self-penned mantras and stylised covers which weirdly sounds proto ambient in places, a sample and loop delight for the eclectic.
