about

When you have “Ethnomusicologist” on your calling card, you aren’t selling vacuum cleaners. Elisabeth Waldo was an American composer and songwriter intrigued by the music of indigenous South America who transported pre-Columbian instruments to her studio and produced three ethereal easy listening masterpieces. ‘Realm Of The Incas’ from 1961 was the third and features a mind-blowing suite for voice and instruments. While Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman rekindled Polynesia with sound effects and jazz-light, Waldo pursued a more scholarly route and created mind-expanding journeys with far more depth. She later worked on Chinese music and also provided voice-overs for The Jetsons and Josie And The Pussycats – how cool is that?
