A prolific purveyor of Tahitian music, Eddie Lund was an American-born pianist who moved to the island and the 1930s and released a string of albums from the late ‘40s onwards with his band The Tahitians covering traditional Polynesian folk music which he attempted to control pre-exotica. ‘Meet Me In Tahiti’ from 1961 had cottoned onto the exotica vibe in its presentation but Lund and co remained truer to the original sound.
