A Norwegian conductor and trumpet player best known for his work with Sinatra, June Hutton, Eddie Fisher and Tommy Dorsey, Axel Stordahl stepped out in his own right with The Lure Of The Blue Mediterranean in 1959 which he followed with ‘Jasmine And Jade’ – switching neatly to the colour green – a year later. It’s lush exotica is punctuated with some more bachelor pad moments but the seasoned arranger’s skill at adding percussion, a gong, and planet of drama make this something of a gem and the sleeve cut-out (pre Photoshop) is a doozy.
