“Wow, listen to the separation on that!” How they marvelled at the invention of Hi-Fi and the fact that the guys on flutes and recorders were so far away from the ones with the violins. Exploitation of the new stereo system and “test” records were essential and creating moods – just listen to ‘Rush Hour’ for a frantic nuance – was the thing. That said, tunes like ‘Can’t We Be Friends’ with its muted sax is everything bachelor pad music should be.
