The notes tease: “Mythical keeper of the flames and volcanoes of Hawaii… Very real to the old Hawaiians who say, when the volcanoes periodically erupt, that PELE, the Fire Goddess, has returned to her crater home.” And Webley Edwards (with Al Kealoha Perry) delivers ‘Hawaii Calls: Fire Goddess’, a 1958 interpretation of his Hawaii Calls radio show that ran from 1935 to 1975. A broadcaster of note, Edwards had been a war correspondent and eventually went into politics but this exotica gem is a heady dip into his unique insight into Hawaiian music.
